Nutritional Therapy for ADHD

As a BANT Registered Nutritionist specialising in working with clients with ADHD, I understand the unique challenges and complexities that ADHD can sometimes bring when it comes to diet and nutrition.

In my clinical practice, I adopt a positive and empowering approach to help my clients with ADHD optimise their health and well-being. I firmly believe in focusing on the strengths and opportunities that come with a neurodivergent way of thinking. This perspective helps me to create a personalised nutrition plan that is both effective and enjoyable for my clients to follow.

I rely on evidence-based practices to ensure that each client receives the most well-researched and safe advice tailored to their specific needs. This approach includes a detailed assessment of the client's medical history, symptoms, and lifestyle habits to create an individualised nutrition plan that incorporates dietary changes, supplements, and lifestyle modifications.

Overall, my goal is to help my clients with ADHD improve their overall health and well-being by providing them with practical and effective nutrition strategies tailored to their specific needs.

In general, my clients come to me seeking support for the following reasons:

Supporting Healthy and Balanced Appetite:

Many of my clients struggle to maintain consistent eating habits due to issues such as lack of appetite, cravings, and inconsistent eating behaviours. They may have been labelled as "picky eaters", and this can cause real difficulties for them during family mealtimes.

There are various factors that contribute to these challenges, including:

  • Difficulties with executive functioning

  • Underlying food intolerances

  • Digestive issues

  • Dopamine seeking

  • Emotional eating

  • Hormone fluctuations

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Gut health problems

To help my clients overcome these challenges and develop a balanced and enjoyable relationship with food, I work with them to create accessible, practical and personalised nutrition plans.

Gut Health and Digestive Symptoms:

Gut health and digestive symptoms, including IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), are common concerns among my clients with ADHD. I offer a range of dietary and supplement recommendations and functional testing where appropriate to support gut health and alleviate digestive discomfort.

Sleep and Mood Disturbances:

The goal of my clinic sessions with my clients is to help them achieve optimal sleep and mood regulation. We focus on promoting good gut-brain communication, microbial diversity, and optimal brain health through dietary and lifestyle modifications tailored to each client's needs.

ADHD with Female Hormone Fluctuations:

Many of our clients experience worsening ADHD symptoms during times of hormone fluctuations. I provide support and practical strategies to navigate these fluctuations, recognising the influence of changing hormone levels on mood, sleep, and cravings. My aim is to empower clients with practical meal planning, recipe ideas, and factsheets to manage ADHD hormone related symptoms effectively.

Whether you're seeking support with appetite regulation, gut health, sleep disturbances or managing ADHD symptoms during hormone fluctuations, I’m here to help you implement practical and easy-to-follow steps.

The goal is to empower you to move forward with confidence on your journey towards improved health and well-being.

If you're ready to take the next step towards optimising your nutrition and managing your ADHD symptoms effectively, feel free to schedule a chat with me. There’s no pressure or hard sell. Just a chance to chat about your symptoms and explore the ways that a consultation might help.
